Monsters of North America: The Jackalope!

jack.jpg

The jackalope is a creature that exists generally because of taxidermy. Jackalope “mounts” are usually made with a dead rabbit and deer antlers, although the jackalope is supposed to be part jackrabbit and part antelope.
The underlying legend of the Jackalope, however, might actually be the result of sightings of rabbits infected with Shope papilloma virus, which causes hornlike growths on a rabbit’s head and body.
