Halloween Countdown 2017: The Teal Pumpkin Project Finale!

I try to keep my two websites separate since Puppatoons is the “cleaner” site, but I can show yall some content I made for it and its Facebook Page. Our home is participating in The Teal Pumpkin Project, which is a campaign that aims to make Halloween safer for everyone, including the one in 13 kids who has a food allergy ranging from mild to life-threatening.

Halloween Countdown 2017: The Bounty at Dollar Tree!

I shoulda written about this sooner; now things are picked over and if you like what you see here you might not be able to get them.

We have several Dollar Tree stores in our area; generally I haven’t been too thrilled with their holiday offerings; it always seems like everything looks too “kiddie” themed or just as if it were made by the lowest-paid designers, which of course is how they keep things cheap. But this year I was really pleasantly shocked at the designs of some of Dollar Tree’s Halloween Wares, from glowing gloves to decorated treat boxes!

Gloves with glowing features!! There were also skeleton and witchy-clawed hands, too!

Halloween Countdown 2017: Gifts from my Nephew!

Sometimes I really enjoy being the crazy aunt. For one thing, my beloved nephew and niece send me fun stuff, like this:

Bryan gift 1

My nephew works for a logistics company,so he’s conscientious about including a “shipping manifest” for a box of stuff he sends. In the box were all kinds of things for me, my husband, my other brother, and my mother and stepdad, and my nephew Bryan neatly wrote a description of everything and who it all should be distributed to. 🙂

Here is most of my stuff before I uncovered a few more things. I should note that my oldest sibling’s children attend the University of Arkansas and therefore are big Razorbacks fans. I by default apparently now have to support the team —Bryan asked me if I would send some good juju—–so.uh..WooO PIGS! SOOOIIIEEEEE!(did I do that right, kids?)

Anyway, I got a kitty candleholder and candles, a lighter with an awesome reptilian eye(I don’t smoke, of course, but people can send me stuff like this anyway if it looks cool), a couple of Oreo Halloween eggs that I have to share with Steve, a sweet kitty and pumpkin magnet, and a great drawing of a Jack o’ lantern face on the envelope with my card. 🙂

Halloween Countdown 2017: My Brother’s Handmade Yard Decorations!

Cutouts jimmy.jpg

Do you ever have decorations from any holiday that you take out, year after year, and they get a little shabbier, a little more worn out and fragile, and you just can’t part with them or fix them up because they are so precious to you, you wouldn’t want to change their original charm? Do they bring back memories of holidays past? Or maybe someone long since parted from this life made them, and you don’t want to cover that person’s craftwork? Are those decorations practically like part of the family? Well, I certainly can identify with these sentiments, and my oldest brother Jimmy sums it up very well with these wooden cutouts his late father-in-law made. I’ll put in his original words:

Back around 1992, my father-in-law Harry M—- bought a really fancy scroll saw. Another addition to “Harry’s Hardware Store”. He quickly put it to use making these cut-outs for the family. In addition to the Halloween ones here, he did some for Christmas and Thanksgiving. He made sets for us, my brother in law’s house and for his house. After he passed in 2004 we got his sets of cut-outs.

Here they are for their 24th Halloween (have more in front of the house) and they still get great comments from the neighbors. They need repainting but I really don’t want to paint over Pawpaw’s art.

Happy Halloween everybody!
